Overview

Product Description

The MitchElectronics VU Meter kit, as the name suggests, is a VU meter that shows the size of a voltage as an LED bar. These are often seen in music equipment, whereby the relative amplitude of an audio source can quickly be seen, but they can be used in other applications including battery chargers and generic sensor readings.

Applications

  • The VU Meter can be used in numerous applications thanks to its ability to be easily added to other projects. The most common project to use the VU meter in is anything audio related, and this would require the kit to be built with the logarithmic resistor values. For applications that involves linear signals, the VU meter can be built with the linear resistor values, and this can be used for sensor readings, battery charge levels, and so much more. Furthermore, the use of comparators, resistor ladders, and potentiometers makes this kit excellent for education, including GCSE and A-Level qualifications.
  • Education and training – Useful for teaching voltage comparators, resistor ladders and LED bar graphs, while providing practical experience with through-hole soldering, component identification and PCB assembly.
  • Project integration – Suitable for projects such as VU Meter, Battery Tester, Alarm, and other designs where the following function is useful: LED bar-graph level meter that can be configured for logarithmic audio indication or linear voltage indication

Notes

  • Electrical specifications are nominal and may vary with component tolerances, supply voltage, load and operating conditions.
  • The product is supplied in kit form and requires soldering and assembly before use.
  • Check component values and observe the polarity or orientation of ICs, diodes, LEDs, transistors and electrolytic capacitors before applying power.
  • A 9V PP3 battery is not included.
