This page explains how MitchElectronics handles personal information and the conditions that apply when using this website, electronics kits, development hardware, documentation and related products.

Who is responsible for your data?
MitchElectronics is a UK limited company. For personal information processed through this website and the company’s direct operations, MitchElectronics is the data controller. The company is led by engineer Robin Mitchell.
Questions about privacy, requests relating to personal data, or concerns about how information is used can be submitted through the contact page.

Information collected
What information may be processed?
The information processed depends on how the website is used. It may include:
- Order and fulfilment information: name, email address, delivery address, order contents, quantities, prices, shipping information, order status and transaction references.
- Account information: account identifiers, authentication/session information, permissions and information required to operate account features.
- Messages and enquiries: information submitted through contact forms, support requests, project enquiries or other correspondence.
- Marketing preferences: an email address and consent or preference information where a person chooses to receive newsletters or other marketing communications.
- Technical and security information: IP address, user agent, timestamps, requested paths, query information, referring page, request counts and other server/request information used to operate, secure and diagnose the website.
- Cookie and session information: identifiers and preferences needed for login, security, shopping-cart, checkout, cookie choices and other requested website functions.
MitchElectronics does not intentionally request special-category personal data through ordinary website functions. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information unless it is genuinely necessary for a specific enquiry.

Where MitchElectronics relies on legitimate interests, those interests are balanced against the rights and reasonable expectations of the person concerned.

Payments
Payment information.
Online payments are processed through the payment provider used at checkout, including PayPal where offered. Payment providers may collect and process payment credentials under their own privacy terms.
MitchElectronics may receive information such as payment status, payer details supplied for the transaction, provider transaction or capture identifiers, currency and amount. Full payment-card details are not intended to be stored directly by the MitchElectronics website.

Security & traffic profiling
Protecting the website from abuse.
MitchElectronics records technical request information to operate the site, investigate faults, detect abuse, protect customer accounts and distinguish ordinary visitors from automated traffic.
Request patterns and technical headers may be used to classify traffic as likely human, automated or undetermined. This is an operational and security measure. It is not intended to make decisions about individuals that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Security records may be retained for a period proportionate to their purpose, including for investigation of suspected attacks, fraud, misuse or repeated abusive behaviour.

Sharing information
Who information may be shared with.
Personal information is shared only where reasonably necessary. Recipients may include payment providers, delivery or postal services, hosting and infrastructure providers, email or communications providers, professional advisers, fraud/security providers, and public authorities where disclosure is required by law.
Service providers should receive only the information required for the service they perform. MitchElectronics does not sell personal information.
Some service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where this occurs, MitchElectronics will rely on an applicable lawful transfer mechanism or other protection required by UK data-protection law.

Retention
How long information is kept.
Personal information is kept only for as long as reasonably required for the purpose for which it was collected, including customer support, order fulfilment, accounting, tax, warranty, fraud prevention, security and the establishment or defence of legal claims.
Different categories therefore have different retention periods. Transaction and accounting records may need to be kept for longer than ordinary support correspondence or short-lived session data. When information is no longer required, it should be deleted, anonymised or otherwise removed from active use where appropriate.

Your rights
Control over personal information.
Depending on the circumstances and lawful basis, UK data-protection law may give you rights to request access to personal data, correct inaccurate data, request erasure, restrict processing, object to certain processing, receive certain data in a portable form and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests in circumstances provided by law, and you can object to direct marketing at any time.
Requests can be made through the contact page. Identity may need to be verified before personal information is disclosed or changed.
If you are unhappy with how a privacy concern has been handled, you can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner. Information about complaints is available at ico.org.uk.

Children
Use by children and young people.
Some MitchElectronics products and learning materials may be suitable for supervised education. The website is not intended to encourage children to submit unnecessary personal information. Purchases, account creation and any activity involving payment should be completed by a person legally able to enter the relevant transaction.
Where a kit is used by a child or inexperienced learner, assembly and operation must be supervised by a responsible adult with sufficient knowledge to manage soldering, tools, power sources and other relevant hazards.

Kit-use terms
Conditions for electronics kits and development hardware.
These conditions apply to electronics kits, development boards, modules, prototyping products, downloadable construction material and similar products supplied by MitchElectronics. By purchasing, assembling or using such a product, the user agrees to use it responsibly and in accordance with the documentation, product ratings and applicable law.

Documentation & project integration
Instructions are part of the engineering process.
MitchElectronics aims to provide accurate product descriptions, construction information and technical material. Electronics projects can nevertheless be affected by component tolerances, substituted parts, external equipment, user construction, software versions and other factors outside the supplied product.
If documentation appears inconsistent, incomplete or unsafe, stop and seek clarification before proceeding. A user integrating a kit, board or module into a larger system is responsible for validating the complete system, including protection, thermal behaviour, EMC, power integrity, mechanical safety and any required approvals.

Liability & consumer rights
What these terms do — and do not — exclude.
Nothing in this policy excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful. In particular, nothing is intended to remove statutory rights relating to goods or services, or to exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or other liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
Subject to those protections, MitchElectronics is not responsible for loss, damage or injury caused by use that is contrary to supplied instructions or ratings; incorrect assembly; unsuitable power sources; negligent or incompetent handling; unauthorised or unsafe modification; unlawful use; failure to test a modified or integrated design; or use in a safety-critical application for which the product was not specified.
Where a loss is partly caused by a defect, breach or negligence for which MitchElectronics is legally responsible and partly caused by the user's own acts or omissions, responsibility will be determined in accordance with applicable law rather than by this policy attempting to remove rights that the law preserves.
Business customers using products as part of commercial design or development are expected to carry out their own engineering validation and compliance assessment before placing a modified or integrated product into service or on the market.

Intellectual property
Product designs, documentation and site content.
Unless a specific licence states otherwise, website content, original documentation, product artwork, diagrams, code, branding and design materials remain protected by applicable intellectual-property rights. Purchasing a physical product does not automatically transfer copyright or other intellectual-property ownership in associated design files or documentation.
Open-source software, third-party libraries and other separately licensed material remain subject to their respective licences.

Changes & governing law
Keeping this policy current.
This policy may be updated when website functionality, suppliers, data practices, products or legal requirements change. The latest version published on this page will show its revision date. Material changes affecting an existing use of personal data will be communicated where required by law.
These website and product-use terms are governed by the laws applicable in the United Kingdom to the relevant transaction. Consumers retain any mandatory rights to bring claims in a court or jurisdiction available to them under applicable consumer law.
